Google is finally providing iOS users with what they’ve been demanding: a smarter, easier way to switch between personal and work Google accounts in the Chrome browser.
Released on July 21, the newest Chrome for iOS update adds an account-switching feature that makes it easier to switch between personal and managed (work) profiles without logging out and logging in every time. It’s a big productivity gain for individuals who balance work and personal activities on the same device.
The feature is currently available only to enterprise users, specifically those using Chrome through a managed profile under the Google Workspace umbrella. That implies that normal users won’t see this toggle yet.
Every profile maintains its information entirely in isolation. Open tabs, browsing history, stored passwords, and autofill options are isolated within each account, ensuring that personal information doesn’t seep into your work browsing (and vice versa). In order to remind users of their profile, Chrome additionally has visual reminders and onboarding screens.
From an IT perspective, this shift favors improved management of corporate information on BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) setups. Admins are in control of user access, blocking websites, filtering categories (such as AI tools), and unifying Chrome logs with third-party security platforms, all through the Google Admin console.
Curiously, though Android has supported work profiles at the OS level for a long time now, Chrome on Android does not support this type of in-app profile flipping. For the moment, it’s an iOS-only benefit for enterprise customers.
This move also reflects Google’s broader strategy to stay ahead in the browser space, especially as the competition gets fiercer. Just recently, OpenAI made headlines by launching its own AI-powered web browser, signaling a shift toward intelligent, context-aware browsing experiences. Google’s latest Chrome updates for iOS may be a direct response to this rising pressure, reinforcing its dominance in both usability and enterprise readiness.
This release is the latest step in Google’s regular push to make Chrome more business-friendly, particularly as it becomes increasingly common for work to be done from anywhere. Through this release, professionals on iPhones and iPads can at last have the same silky-smooth account management experience they enjoy on desktop.
